With just few days left for the start of the most awaited 12th edition of Indian Premier League (IPL), the calculations and predictions have already started for the tournament. The tournament will start on 23rd March as the defending champion Chennai Super Kings will face Royal Challengers Bangalore in the first match at Chennai.

Teams like Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders looks pretty strong and can lift the title this season. But Mumbai Indians squad looks even better with their combination and balance.

Here are the 4 reasons why Mumbai can lift the title this season:

1. Quality Pace Attack

Mumbai have one of the best pace bowling attack among all the teams in this tournament. Death overs specialist Jasprit Bumrah has been outstanding for the franchise for quite a long time. Bumrah’s performance was one of the key factor for Mumbai’s top performance in previous seasons.

Another big name in Mumbai’s pace attack is the kiwi Mitchell McClenegan. The oppositions will be aware of his wicket taking abilities that might prove to be very powerful weapon for Mumbai. Jason Behrendorff who was pretty impressive in the recently concluded India-Australia series is also a part of this team and can be successful if given a chance. The presence of veteran Lasith Malinga will provide guidance to these pacers and the team can get benefit from this.

2. Presence of perfect T20 Allrounders

There are a number of quality and ideal T20 allrounders in the team. The Pandya Brothers, Hardik Pandya and Krunal Pandya will hold the key for Mumbai. Both the Pandya brothers are known for big hitting in the death overs and give some economic overs as well as pick up crucial wickets in middle phase of the innings. Hard hitting Caribbean Kieron Pollard will be roaring to entertain us with his enormous hits. In addition, a surprise package in this squad can be Ben Cutting. The inclusion of Cutting will provide that extra depth in the batting line up along with variation in bowling line up.

3. Solid Batting lineup

As far as last season’s performance of Mumbai was concerned, they were lacking a flamboyant and dependable batsman at the top of the order. With Rohit Sharma coming into bat at number 3 or 4, they desparately needed someone dependable as a opener. They have included South African wicketkeeper batsman Quinton De Kock for the same. De Kock’s presence at the top of the order will provide that extra freedom for someone like Rohit Sharma as he can go after the bowling easily with De Kock’s support.

However, with the inclusion of De Kock, it will be interesting to see how Evin Lewis will be used by the team. One can’t really say how the presence of Yuvraj Singh will boost the batting at the moment. Yuvraj has been out of the international cricket for quite some time now. We all know how dangerous Yuvi can be in his day and Mumbai will be hoping the same from him this time around.

The hard hitting Kieron Pollard, Hardik Pandya and Krunal Pandya forms a solid combination of finishers in the team and can tear apart any bowling attack.

4. Rohit’s Captaincy

Rohit Sharma has led Mumbai side for 6 seasons and won the title 3 times. This shows how successful he has been for the franchise. Rohit knows whom to back in crucial situations. Generally, Rohit is spot on with his bowling changes, field placing and playing XI selection and has impressed with his captaincy in previous edition of IPL. His experience of leading the Indian side in few T20s and ODIs will help him lead this franchise as well.

Rohit has been involved in a number of close games in most crucial stages of the tournament and has came back victorious in most times. Despite losing consecutive matches in the tournament, he led his team to lift the title in 20. This shows that Rohit knows how to lead the team in difficult situations. He had the backing of some legends of the game namely Sachin Tendulkar, Mahela Jayawardena and Jonty Rhodes.
