Hongkong win hearts despite India win match by 26 runs
India survive a mighty scare from Hongkong by defeating Hongkong by 26 runs in their first match of the ongoing Asia Cup. Despite ending in a losing side, Hongkong won the hearts for battling out and nearly pulling off a victory against one of the top teams.
Hongkong won the toss and invited India to bat first. Rohit Sharma fell for 23 runs while his opening partner Shikhar Dhawan scored a hundred for India. Dhawan scored 127 runs from 120 balls which included 15 fours and 2 sixes. Ambati Rayudu supported him well with 70 ball 60 including 3 fours and 2 sixes.Kinchit Shah was the pick of the bowlers for Hongkong as he finished with the figures of 3-39.
Openers Nizakat Khan and Anshuman Rath added a record 174 run stand for the first wicket as Hongkong put India onto backfoot. Nizakat was out for 92 while Anshuman scored 73 runs. Once the openers were out, Hongkong couldn't really capitalize on the brilliant start. Yuzvendra Chahal and Khaleel Ahmed shared 3 wickets each while Kuldeep Yadav chipped in with 2 wickets as the Indian spinners brought India back in the match.
"We are proud, but it's bittersweet. We should've probably won it, but lost few too many wickets in the middle during key times. Credit to the India bowlers for sticking with their plans. Going into the tournament we had no pressure, and we wanted to play with a smile on our faces. It would've been nice if we rolled over the best team in the world, but I'm super proud of the boys. Nizakat's innings at the top was great.." -Hongkong's skipper Anshy Rath said after the match.
With the loss, Hongkong is out of the tournament. India will face arch rivals Pakistan on Wednesday.
