Is IPL 2019 shifting from India?
The twelveth season of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2019) might be held outside India as per the latest reports, as whole India seems to be gearing up for the 2019 elections. In case the IPL gets shifted, South Africa, UAE or even England can be overlooked as the top contenders for providing venues for the grand T20 league.
Even in the past, the IPL has been shifted out of India, again, because of the national elections that take place in every five years. IPL 2009 was fully conducted in South Africa whereas IPL 2014 was partially played in UAE. However, the official decision will only be taken once the Election Commission (EC) announces the dates of the eagerly awaited elections.
The reports have also suggested that the upcoming IPL may be shifted to UAE partially; however, if the whole league is played outside the country, South Africa will be the first choice as UAE has only 3 major cricket stadiums.
The IPL 2019 will commence on March 29 and end on May 12 next year. However, the major cricketers are expected to take a break from the IPL as the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 starts after 18 days of the IPL Finals, i.e May 30.
The final decision will be taken by the Committee of Administrators (CoA), Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) management, along with IPL COO Hemang Amin.
