Mumbai finish on top, KKR knocked out, SRH gets to playoffs
Mumbai Indians finished on top of the points table at the end of the league stage in the ongoing VIVO Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019. Mumbai defeated Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by 9 wickets in the last match of the league stage on Sunday at Wankhede Stadium to take the top spot.
KKR had to win the match to secure a place in the playoffs but it was an off day for KKR. KKR were looking good at 49/0 from 6.1 Overs before the collapse started. Shubman Gill was the first one to be dismissed as he was LBW to Hardik Pandya. Hardik got rid of dangerous looking Chris Lynn in his very next over. Lynn scored a 29 ball 41 with 2 fours and 4 sixes. Andre Russell (0), Dinesh Karthik (3) disappointed with the bat while Nitish Rana chipped in with 13 ball 26.
MI in reply chased down the target easily with 9 wickets and 23 balls remaining. Rohit Sharma completed his half century and remained unbeaten on 55 runs off 48 balls including 8 fours. Quinton de Kock made a brisk 23 ball 30 while Surya Kumar Yadav remained notout on 27 ball 46.
Mumbai will now face Chennai at MA Chidambaram on Wednesday in the first qualifier while Sunrisers Hyderabad and Delhi Capitals compete against each other in the eliminator.
