New Zealand stun India to march onto World Cup finals

New Zealand defeated India by 18 runs in the first semi final of the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 at Manchester to secure a place in the finals. New Zealand will now face the winner of the second semi final between England and Australia in the finals.

The two day long semi final between India and New Zealandcame out to be low scoring thriller. New Zealand finished on 239/8 from 50 overs. The Kiwis resumed from 211/5 in the second day with Ross Taylor and Tom Latham at the crease.Taylor was runout by Ravindra Jadeja as he scored 74 runs. Skipper Kane Williamson scored 67 runs for the Kiwis while opener Henry Nicholls contributed 28 runs.

Bhuvneswor Kumar was the pick of the bowlers for India as he finished with the figures of 3-43 from his 10 overs. Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja and Yuzvendra Chahal shared a wicket each.

India in reply lost their top 3 very cheaply to find themselves at 5/3. KL Rahul, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were out for identical scores of 1. Rishabh Pant and Hardik Pandya tried to consolidate the innings with 32 runs each. Dinesh Karthik got out for 6 runs before MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja added 116 runs fro seventh wicket to bring India back in match. But after the wicket of Jadeja, New Zealand came back and eventually won the match by 18 runs.

Ravindra Jadeja top scored for India with 77 runs off just 59 balls with 4 fours and 4 sixes. MS Dhoni was runout for 50 runs. Matt Henry picked up 3 wickets while Trent Boult and Mitchell Santner shared 2 wickets each. Lockie Ferguson and Jimmy Neesham shared a wicket each for the Kiwis.

The second semi final between England and Australia will be played on Thursday the winner of which will face New Zealand in the finals.
