Bangladesh stun South Africa to start World Cup campaign with a win
Banglaesh defeated South Africa by 21 runs to start their World Cup Campaign with a win. South Africa were restricted to 309/8 chasing a mamooth total of 330 runs.
South Africa elected to field first after winning the toss. Bangladesh got off to a good start as openers Tamim Iqbal and Soumya Sarkar added 60 runs for the opening stand. Tamim scored 16 runs while Sarkar contributed 42 runs.Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim added 142 run partnership for third wicket. Shakib scored 75 runs off 84 balls while Rahim played well for his 80 ball 78.Mahmudullah provided the late flourish with his unbeaten 46 runs from 33 balls as Bangladesh finished on 330/6 from 50 overs.Phehlukwayo, Chris Morris and Imran Tahir picked up 2 wickets each for the Proteas.
Chasing a target of 331 runs to win, South Africa kept losing wickets at regular intervals and fell short of the target by 21 runs. Almost everyone got starts but could not play a long innings for South Africa. Quinton de Kock (23), Markaram (45), Faf du Plesis (62), David Miller (38),van der Dussen (41) and JP Duminy (45) got starts but lost their wicket after looking good.
Mustafizur Rahman was the pick of the bowlers for Bangladesh as he finished with the figures of 3-67 from his quota of 10 overs.Mohammad Saifuddin chipped in with 2 wickets.
South Africa were defeated by England in their first match by 104 runs. This is South Africa's second consecutive loss in this tournament while win for Bangladesh in their first match.
