Pujara can be India's Number 4 in limited overs cricket, says Ganguly
Indian cricket team has been looking for a permanent number 4 for their batting lineup for some time now. India tried a number of batsmen at 4 in recently concluded series against Australia which they lost 3-2. However, the solution hasn't been found yet.
Ambati Rayudu, KL Rahul or even Vijay Shankar are being tried but none has done justice to that spot.
Meanwhile, an interesting opinion came from former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly. Ganguly thinks if Cheteswar Pujara could be the best choice. Ganguly admitted that Pujara may not be much athletic in the field as others players are but also said that his batting can be useful to India.
“See, I am going to say something that might not sound believable to many viewers and a lot of people might laugh at my suggestion,” - Ganguly said. He explained “For me, Cheteshwar Pujara should be India’s No.4 in ODIs. His fielding might be a bit weak but he is a very good batsman. I know people will be shocked by my claim but if you want a quality batsman who is better than the options India has tried off late, I think Pujara is the best choice”.
We all know how successful Pujara has been in the Test format for India. Can he do justice if given a chance at number 4 in ODIs too ? Its very unlikely if he will be given chance in limited overs cricket soon but will be very interesting to see how he performs if given a chance.
