World Cup 2019 : Stokes, Archer guide England to win
England defeated South Africa by 104 runs in the first match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 on Thursday. Allrounder Ben Stokes and Jofra Archer were the star performers for England as they start their world cup campaign with a win.
South Africa won the toss and elected to field first earlier the day. England finished on 311/8 from their 50 overs. Ben Stokes was the top scorer with 89 runs from 79 balls including 9 fours.Skiper Eoin Morgan played well for his 57 which included 4 fours and 3 sixes. Jason Roy and Joe Root completed their half centuries at the top of the order after Jonny Bairstow was out first ball he faced.
Chasing a target of 312 runs to win, South Africa were allout for 207 runs. Apart from Quinton de Kock and van der Dussen, none of the batsmen looked like scoring runs. de Kock made 68 while van der Dussen contributed 50 runs.
Jofra Archer was the pick of the bowlers for England as he finished with the figures of 3-27 from his 7 overs. Liam Plunkett and Ben Stokes shared 2 wickets each for England.
